Tator Tat

You may or may not know that Junghwa is my legal middle name and also my official Korean name.  Jung happens to be my dad's name and Hwa is my mom's name.  Yeah, and it's an actual real name.  What are the chances of that right?!  That's a good reason why I love it so much.  But the main reason I hold it so close to me is that my grandparents, on my dad's side, were the only ones to ever call me by that name.  They lived in Korea, so I didn't get to see them often, but I loved them... a lot!  They passed away a number of years ago, but it still feels like just yesterday that we were together.

And the reason for this story is that, I've decided to get my first tattoo.  I've waited this long because I wanted to get something meaningful.  Something I wouldn't regret 30 years from now.  So... I've decided on getting Junghwa on the inside of my right wrist.  I know it's corny to get your own name tattooed, but this truly has a lot of meaning to me.

WHAT DO YOU THINK???

  5. I think it's a brilliant idea and I would do it in the same written font on the paper. I've been toying with getting something on the inside of my left wrist for almost 3 yrs now. Maybe if you do it I'll get up the courage to do mine as well! xoxo Erica

  7. I love the tattoo concept, and that it holds such deep meaning for you. I don't think it is corny at all. My husband's Korean name is very unique. He is attached to it, but no one can pronounce it correctly! Not even native Korean speakers. He humors me and tells me that I say it correctly. Yeah right! :)

Can't wait to see how it turns out!

  16. ..I think it's wonderful ideas especially because you have such a deep meaning to it , I think it's very sweet from you ..and Junghwa sounds and looks so good , you must be so happy to have such rare name and it's wonderful that there is story behind that ..
and it's perfect place for tattoo , I would choose that place as well , like you said to not regret after 30 years because there is some places where tattoo would not look very tasteful when we are 60 : ) he he ..but the wrist is perfect place to keep your special tattoo ..

thanks for the comments , yes , I make the jacket , only finish yesterday ..

  19. Hi Amy! I think it's a fine idea, it's something that has meaning for you and that's all that matters. And you can wear a bracelet or long sleeves if it ever needs to be hidden, you know? Though I can't imagine why it would!

  20. I just love that you've given this so much thought! And if I were to get a tattoo, that's exactly where I would do it - no risk of stretch marks :)

  21. Amy, I was thinking of getting a moon and little tiny stars (almost pointalist style)... something that originated from one of my boys (can't remember who) saying that I was their moon and they were my little stars. I did a wonderful sketch of it, but lost the sketch and have never found it again. I took it as a sign that the time wasn't right. I like the idea of right hand being more about you and left hand being more about family...same ideas with ring finger and left hand being the one with connections straight to your heart, etc...
Anyways, sorry to write a novel doll! xoxo Erica

  22. Your comment made me smile because in my earlier comment here I first closed by asking if you thought your grandparent's would be honored by it. But when I read over it (looking for typos, LOL), the question sounded negative. I didn't intend it that way, so I just took it out. You may be psychic, you answered the question I wanted to ask, but didn't! =)
